In this section we will show you how to use the African Marine Atlas. We will show you the followin topics:
- How to change the size of the map, zoom in or out, re-centre the map
- How to select a background layer, data layer
For each of these topics we have made a short video clip.
It all starts with this screen after you have clicked on the link "Go to the Atlas" which opens a new window and shows the AMA MapServer startup screen:
The left window shows a simple base map of th African coastline; the right window shows, from top to bottom, the location of the left map on the world map, a selection option for "available maps" (which is not in use today), available data layers and available background. The bottom box will show the display properties of the displayed layers.
To make it easier to learn how to use AMA we have prepared a few tutorials as short videos.
Click on the Tutorial of your choice now to learn how to use the AMA MapServer (a new window will be opened and the video will start almost immediately - streaming video):
- Tutorial 1: How to change the size of the map, zoom in or out, re-centre the map
Tutorial 1 (QuickTime video 46.51 MB)
- Tutorial 2: How to select a background layer, data layer
Tutorial 2 (QuickTime video 105,6 MB)
Note: the above video clips require the QuickTime Player Plugin for your browser. You can download this from http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/ (normally your browser will invite you to install the plugin).
